Two toolkits prepared for Impact 2.0 may be of use for research organisations seeking to incorporate web 2.0 and social networking tools into their efforts to influence public policy. Both are available in English and Spanish.
The Impact 2.0 iGuide – New mechanisms for linking research and policy was developed for use by Impact 2.0 research projects to provide ideas and guidelines for how web 2.0 and social networking tools can be used to facilitate collaborative policy making and the effective insertion of research into the policy process. It was prepared by Cheekay Cinco, Karel Novotný and Bruce Girard.
The main issues addresses by the guide are:
- How researchers can effectively and strategically use Web 2.0 and social networking tools, to better understand the policy context, e.g. to identify and understand the main policy actors, to identify key issues themes, and to recognise opportunities.
- How researchers can use Web 2.0 tools to encourage discussion, debate and collaboration based on their research findings.
- How researchers can use Web 2.0 tools to develop and maintain relations with policy makers and other important stakeholders.
Please feel free to consult it and to contribute.
Tools for the Analysis of National Policy Contexts offers methodological guidelines which can be used to analyse the political context of national policies. The analysis of the political context is understood as the identification of and critical reflection on the factors that contribute to or hinder the public policy process. The main framework for analysis recommended by the guide is the context, evidence and links framework developed by the Research and Policy in Development (RAPID) programme. It has been expanded with the addition of useful aspects for the purposes of the guide, gathered from APC’s experience in the analysis of policy contexts through other methodologies and resources used in its policy advocacy work over recent years.
